Protect Yourself From Intruders with Help From Locksmiths in Adelaide

Most of the time, we ring Locksmiths in Adelaide to help us when we are locked out. Unfortunately, most of us are not proactive about our own home’s security. We have our flimsy door and window locks but don’t do much more than that. While some people are blessed with security alarms, surprisingly many people don’t even bother turning them on.

An interesting case of home security came into the media in 2009 when a string of Hollywood burglars took place. Between October 2008 and August 2009, the group of teens broke into countless celebrities’ homes and ended up getting their hands on over $3 million of cash and possessions. Paris Hilton was targeted on several occasions, with the majority of belongings burgled from her. Other celebrities that were targeted during the robbery spree were Audrina Patridge, Rachel Bilson, Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr, Brian Austin Green and Megan Fox, and Lindsay Lohan.

The Bling Ring was made up of seven teens, however the two main members are outlined further below.

Rachel Lee

Just as extravagant as the Bling Ring itself, is the ringleader, Rachel Lee. Rachel was the brains behind the operation and planned the majority of the break-ins. While Rachel drover he own Audi A4 to school, she longed for designer gear to match. With a obsession with reality television and glamorous celebrities, once she managed to get inside their houses, the obsession grew.

Surprisingly, Rachel came from an advantaged background and lived in Calabasas with her mother and older sister. She had a history of liking the finer things in life and was even awarded “Best Dressed” in her school year book in 2007. A pretty ironic fact, considering the majority of possessions she pinched was celebrities’ expensive clothing. Rachel did not have a clear slate when it came to trouble making. She was expelled from her Calabasas High School, however, was still a smart student who managed to win a creative arts scholarship at her new school. She also had a criminal record, which was for petty theft. Her and fellow Bling Ring member were caught taking $85 worth of cosmetics from Sephora.

Nick Prugo

Nick Prugo was a new student as Indian Hills High School that caught the eye of Rachel Lee. The pair first untied over their love of fashion and it wasn’t too long until Nick was in the inner sanctums of the friendship group. It appeared the prospect of friends and popularity swayed the formerlessly friendless teen into taking part in the crime sprees. Prior to his school transfer, Nick has suffered ADHD and anxiety and had been expelled for missing too many days. At the time he made friends with Rachel, he was pretty low and looking for some guidance. Sadly, his new group of friends had another bad influence on him. During night outs partying he became addicted to drugs and would facilitate his addiction by stealing money from his parents. Rachel and Nick participated in the first crime, which was robbing from an acquaintance’s home. From there, the crimes grew. Soon after the successful robbery, they strolled around their neighborhood opening the doors up of expensive cars to see their luck if there was cash or credit cards. Following these crimes and many other, Nick was imprisoned for two years.

Despite these teens targeting the rich and famous, they still managed to easily infiltrate their homes. This case really highlights the need for heightened home security and being committed to ensuring doors are locked, and security systems are switched on.
